Jack Russell, the former lead singer of the popular 1980s hard rock band Great White, has passed away at the age of 63 after a battle with dementia, according to a statement released by his family on Thursday.

Russell was a founding member of Great White, which achieved fame in the 1980s with hits such as "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" and "Rock Me." He also sang for the band Jack Russell's Great White.

Russell's family stated in a Facebook post: "He may be gone, but his spirit and his music will live on." They also expressed gratitude for the prayers and support from fans.

Tributes to Russell have poured in from fans and fellow musicians, including Great White guitarist Mark Kendall and former lead guitarist Scott Snyder.
